Glyndwr married Jean Krithia Daisley Worrall on 28 Jul 1938 in Kingston, London, England, and was divorced in 1957. Jean (daughter of Albert Edward Worrall and Kathleen Ethel Daisley) was born on 1 Dec 1916 in 86 Prestbury, Warlingham, Surrey, England; was christened on 7 Jul 1918 in Margaret Roding, St. Margaret of Antioch, Essex, England; died on 12 Jan 2010 in Norwich, Norfolk, England. William married Sarah James on 7 Jun 1908 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales. Sarah (daughter of James James and Anne Bowen) was born on 05 Aug 1886 in Llantood, Pembrokeshire, Wales. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

I have assumed this is the Sarah James who married William Charles Thomas in Pembrokeshire since I can find no other Sarah James of the right age in either place in either census with a father of the right name with the right occupation.

Albert married Kathleen Ethel Daisley on 01 Jan 1915 (partnership). Kathleen was born about 1898; died on 26 Dec 1959 in Wokingham, Berkshire, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

The only Kathleen Daisley I found in the 1901 census is about 10 years too old. I'm assuming her name was Ethel, and that the one I found in 1911 is the correct one.

The birth places are different in the 1891 census. The places are very close together however, and all the people are right.

William married Mary Ann Davies on 31 Aug 1872 in Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Wales. Mary (daughter of Evan Davies and Alice) was born about 1856 in Llangynwyd, Glamorgan, Wales. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

gives useful information about the places - Treherbert was in the parish of Ystradyfodwg, which is now called Rhondda.

I have not entered the results I found for the 1851 and 1861 censuses. I found two households which might be that of James's father.
In one James is 4 in 1851 and 14 in 1861 and his father John is a farmer. In the other James is 2 and 12 and his father John is a farmer in 1851 but in 1861 he is a mason.
Both households are in Dinas, Pembrokeshire.
I have also found those households in 1841, but have not transcribed the entries. In that year the second John describes himself as a Miller - miller then farmer then mason!
We would expect James to be 11 or 12 in 1861, which points at the second John as his father - the one who couldn't settle down.

James married Anne Bowen on 8 Sep 1870 in Cardigan, Cardiganshire, Wales. Anne (daughter of Owen Bowen and Anne) was born about 1849 in Newport, Pembrokeshire, Wales; died before 1901. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

By the 1901 census James was a widower, so she died between 1891 and 1901.

There was another possible marriage for James James and Ann Bowen at about the right time in the right place.
In 1873, at the Harmony Chapel of the Particular Baptists in Haverfordwest, Pembroke. He was 24, a Labourer in Coal Works, residing Penwithin, Manorowen, father Thomas James a Farm Labourer. She was 24, a housemaid, residing in Penrhyn, Llanwnda. father Henry Bowen a Farmer. They both signed ie could write.
Reasons for rejecting this were
(a) The first child was born in 1871 - but sometimes people married late.
(b) On Anne's daughter Sarah's birth certificate her mother made her mark ie could not write.
(c) James is everywhere else described as a labourer, sometimes as a farm labourer, not in a coal works.
(d) Newport is more likely than Haverfordwest.
(e) In the 1871 census,in Owen Bowen's household, his daughter Ann is there, married, name James, with a son Thomas. James James is also in the census, married but residing at the farm where he worked.

In the 1891 census all the family is said to have been born in Pembrokeshire but lived in Cardigan. In 1901 her mother Anne was dead, and whoever filled in the form said the children were born in Cardigan. However the two counties seem very flexible - on her birth certificate Sarah is said to have been born in Llantood, Pembrokeshire but registered in Cardigan.

William married Martha Sheldon after 1873. Martha (daughter of James Sheldon and Martha Pratt) was born on 11 Jul 1848 in Cleeve, Gloucestershire, England; died on 7 Mar 1902 in Westminster, London, England. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]

Thomas and Francis are probably not William's children - Thomas definitely started out as Thomas Sheldon, staying with his grandparents in 1871. I expect Martha didn't marry their father, and I can find no marriage for Martha and William.
Martha's parents had a different grandson, William, staying with them in 1881, about the same age as Thomas. I have found William and Thomas living in the same house in 1891, both married - they could be cousins or brothers since the ages given differ by a year.


Wm and Martha are captured in the 1881 census in Birmingham with Thomas and Francis, then in the 1891 census in London with the youngest three. Thomas and Francis would be 21 and 19 in 1891 - old enough to have left home.
