Although some of the Tenbury registers are in a woeful condition because of flood damage, I can say with confidence that the piece referring to 250 years of Worralls in Tenbury is quite simply not true. There were no marriages of Worrall grooms in Tenbury before 1800 and only one isolated bride (Ann Worrall to Thomas Gomery on 22.7.1714). Most Worrall marriages before 1800 were at Ribbesford & Rock, with odd ones at Astley, Claines, Clent, Evesham, Halesowen, Kidderminster, Knighton-on-Teme, Oldswinford, Wolverley & Yardley. The earliest Worrall burial at Tenbury according to the National Burial Index (which is pretty good for Worcs) is William senior in 1851 (the next being his eldest son John on 30.7.1858 (aged 28)). Apart from looking at these indexes, I have also looked at the parish register in the 18th century, to no avail. Ideally, I would resort to the Bishop's Transcripts (which as already indicated are at Hereford Record Office).

The Burford register has ben printed up to 1812, and this published source is held at Hereford Record Office. It was clear from the index that William was not born in Burford parish, but after a bit of checking, I discovered that he must have been born in the adjoining parish of Milson. Milson is a small parish NW of Tenbury and slightly N of E in relation to Nash. According to the burial register, William was 50 years old when he died in February 1851, which suggests a birth in 1800 or early in 1801. This does not tally with the 1841 census, where his age is given as 35 [which could be anything between 35 & 39]. In fact William's baptism was on 6.12.1804; he was the illegitimate son of Sarah Worral.

From the newspaper article in Histories. This Hotel was The SWAN, Burford. Presume that WILLIAM WORRALL senior had been OSTLER there for 20 years. His mother in law lived next door at SWAN COTTAGE BURFORD VILLAGE. The TEME seperates Tenbury and Burford but they adjoin.

From the burial register. The entry noted to the effect that he was killed by the 'Red Rover' coach passing over him.

Bishop's Transcripts of Burford parish register. They actually married at Nash chapel, which clearly did not have its own register. Son John must have been 'on the way' when they married.
