Lucy Catherine Sudlow Davis[1]
1830 - 1922 (92 years)-
Name Lucy Catherine Sudlow Davis Born 12 Mar 1830 Bloxham, Oxfordshire, England [2] Gender Female Died Jul 1922 [2] Person ID I1253 Family Last Modified 28 Jun 2011
Father William Davis, b. 8 Aug 1784, Deddington, Oxfordshire, England , d. 25 Sep 1876, Goulburn, New South Wales, Australia (Age 92 years) Mother Jane Elizabeth Weston, b. 1795, Brackley, Northampton, England , d. 1888 (Age 93 years) Married 12 Mar1816 Croughton, Northamptonshire, England [3, 4] Notes - In a prologue to the transcript of her letter to her brother Robert, we are told that the family went to Guernsey on 20 Aug 1834, and that their son Robert died there. It also implies they emigrated from there to Australia. Note that Robert supposedly died at 10 months so the dates are a little askew here - currently we have his death as July 1834 ie before they got to Guernsey. However people are rarely exact - maybe he was a little more than 10 months, maybe his birth was towards the end of September 1833.
- Miss Davis and Mr John Davis travelled cabin class on the Camden from London to Sydney in 1836.
The ship was advertised to leave Gravesend 10th February, picking up passengers at Portsmouth on 18th February. However, the arrivals list states that she left (the Downs) on the 22nd so there was some delay. It arrived at Port Jackson, Sydney on 2nd June.
The names are not uncommon, but it fits pretty well.
