Matilda did not have any children. She lived with my grandparents in Singareni, near Hyderabad, India, and my father often told me tales about "Aunty Matty" (and her excellent recipes, some of which he reproduced). He would have been most interested to know more about William Chamarette - he told me he was a diamond merchant, and thought he was French. I taped some of these stories so will have to get them out and refresh my memory. I know they once had a problem from a panther raiding the chickens at night, so Aunty Matty locked herself in the chicken house one night with her gun, and was rewarded by the panther breaking in towards dawn, upon which she promptly shot it.
