Albert Edward Worrall and car at Tregantle

The official MoD records show that AEW served at Tregantle Fort from 1920-23 so this must be the case.
Whilst the Fort closed after WW1 it cannot have taken place immediately and must have been active until the early ´20´s, winding down gradually as it were to closure in 2023.
Don´t forget that whilst WW1 ended with the Armistice of November 11th 1918 the tension in Europe was still high and there was concern that hostilities may break out again.
The final act and surrender of Germany came about of course at the Treaty of Versailles some months later in 1919 so by the time decisions had been taken and actions implemented, it would seem that a few years passed until the Fort finally closed.
Our Dad, Peter was of course born during this time (1.12. 1922) - just as all this was going on.

On AEW´s retirement from the army in November 2023, just a few weeks after his 42nd birthday, it is worth noting that he was placed on the Reserve of Officers which supports my thinking in that as the army contracted after the Great War and he was now a senior soldier so to speak, he was ´retired´ from the army in good grace, granted the rank of Major and retained as reserve officer.
